How No Forking Idea works, where its venue information comes from, and the limits we want every diner to understand.
Why No Forking Idea exists
No Forking Idea is a small independent product from Leviathan Studios. It was built for a familiar problem: groups can spend longer negotiating dinner than eating it. The app creates a temporary private table, gives everybody the same finite menu and reveals only the places that satisfy the group’s chosen matching rule.
The editorial guides explain the reasoning behind that flow. They are written for people making a real plan, not to pad a catalogue of venue names. We focus on coordination, location, voting, opening information and the checks that public data cannot replace.
Where the venue information comes from
Venue identity and location are derived from the Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme open data for Northern Ireland and Liverpool. Where a confident match is available, cached OpenStreetMap data can add opening hours, cuisine, contact and service information. The matching process runs away from the diner request path so a slow mapping service does not hold a room open.
Neither source is a booking system or a review. Businesses change after datasets are published, community map details can be incomplete, and an open building may have a closed kitchen. We label uncertainty and repeatedly ask diners to confirm important information with the venue.
Privacy by design
People can use a room without an account, email address or phone number. A temporary session token stays in the browser, individual votes are not shown to other diners, and completed room data expires automatically. Optional analytics is held behind a separate consent choice.
Advertising is currently paused across the entire site while we address Google’s publisher review. If it returns after approval, it will be restricted to substantial public editorial pages—not rooms, join flows, results, alerts, navigation, administration or legal screens—and regional consent will be handled through a Google-certified platform.
Corrections and contact
We want the app and guides to be useful and candid about their limits. If a guide is unclear, a venue record appears wrong, or you have a privacy question, email [email protected]. Include the venue name and area when reporting catalogue information, but do not send sensitive medical or personal details.
No Forking Idea is maintained by Leviathan Studios. Editorial pages show their update date, and meaningful product changes are recorded in the public changelog inside the app.
Corrections are reviewed against the relevant public source before the bundled catalogue changes. Editorial corrections are made directly and dated so readers can understand when guidance was last checked.
